KREITZ ENDS VICTORY DROUGHT – 358s TO DILLER

MECHANICSBURG, PA – Don Kreitz, Jr. ended a three-year victory drought by dominating the 25-lap sprint car feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway. Kreitz, who started fourth in the 24-car field, was third on the first lap behind Rich Eichelberger and Niki Young. Using a difficult middle line through the corners, Kreitz drove by Young on the second lap and took the lead from Eichelberger on the third circuit. Young took the runnerup spot from Eichelberger on lap five, but couldn’t stay with Kreitz until a caution flag slowed the action with four laps left. On the restart Kreitz was experiencing handling problems and Young was able to challenge for the lead in the closing stages, but the former track champion held on for the victory. Stevie Smith, who started 6th, followed Kreitz and Young across the line. Alan Krimes and Fred Rahmer completed the top five. Greg Hodnett came from the 12th starting position to finish sixth ahead of Brian Leppo, Todd Shaffer, Doug Esh and Mark Smith. Kreitz earned $3000 from a purse of $16,000 for his 51st career victory at Williams Grove. It was his first triumph since May 28, 2004, when he passed Steve Kinser on the last lap to win a World of Outlaws race. Kreitz also became the sixth different winner in as many sprint car races at Williams Grove this season. Heats for the 35 sprint cars in competition were won by Leppo, Young, Stevie Smith and Kreitz. Mark Smith and Lucas Wolfe won the consolation races.
