Cody was informed by track officials that he was being black flagged for stopping 3 times on the speedway. Cody disagreed with the call and was disqualified by LANCO officials. Due to the events following his exit from the speedway, Cody would like to make the following statement, " I would like to apologize to all our sponsors, fellow racers and fans for the unsportsman like conduct I demonstrated after receiving the black flag and being disqualified from the 600 event. After four nights of action on the speedways, some of them very late nights, I was very upset at a call that I didn't feel was correct. After all the hard work and effort my team put into the races leading up to the 600 event, for me to get disqualified was a lot to handle. I did not intend to harm anyone in the pits or the officials, and again I apologize for my actions off the track. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Let's get back to racing."

Cody qualified for the event by winning his heat race. But that was no small task. After leading the 1st 2 laps, Cody spun out in turn 3 and had to start at the rear.
